March 5, 2012

March 5, 2012 Present: Judy R, Dennis, Pete, Cindi B, Gayle, Laurie

Meeting called to order. Minutes were approved as printed. No treasurer's report given.

BAC report - Pete - Discussion on recruitment posters and conceal and carry policy. A short discussion on recruitment followed. No real solid ideas presented.

4 town board meeting report - Pete - Port Wing has not been represented for the past several meetings. Laurie will contact the town about matter.

Fund raising activities have been turned over to the auxiliary.

There was a discussion on moving our refresher to odd years. Pros- only Washburn is on that year so there would be more WITC teacher availably. Cons - only Washburn would be available for make up classes. Point made that South Shore may not have enough EMTs to ever have a class of its own. Tabled for continuing discussion. The other option is to pursue the online refresher training. Gayle is still getting details on that for the April meeting.

South Shore School Disaster Plan - All EMTs will meet at the PW Fire Hall and be transported to the PW post office by ambulance. The Post Office serves as the staging area. Everyone is to avoid travel on roads bordering the school. IC command with a commander from each entity will go to a unified command if it appears that the incident will go on for some time.

Financial returns to the TOC have improved GREATLY since we began using LifeQuest. Pete credited EMTs for completely filling out reports for the rise in returns.

Update on the policy manual. Pete and Gary V. have attended a law conference each year to assist them with writing the policy manual. The TOC insurance company is not happy that the policy is not yet in place. Once the draft has been approved by the group, changes will still have to be made regularly.

Wildland Fire Update - EMTs are to go to staging area as directed by dispatch. Pete advised that the rescue sled should be taken to each fire. The sled can be pulled by any EMT or firefighter, even with their personal vehicle. If it appears that the fire will last many hours, there should only be the minimum amount of EMTs at the fire at any one time and they are to rotate shifts. One person cannot serve as a firefighter and EMT at the same time.

Suggestions for future purchases that Dennis will check out for future meeting: Hartwell Medical scoop stretcher (plastic), pulse-Ox for ear, Sam Sling for hip immobilization, slide board.

Laurie will be making maps to give to patient's families with directions to area hospitals.

Review of run statistics for runs so far in 2012.

Meeting Adjourned.
