March 31, 2011Bayfield-Ashland Counties EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES March 31, 2011 The meeting was called to order by Gary Victorson, Vice-President of the Council. MINUTES – A motion was made by Tom Walters, seconded by Tam Hofman, to approve the February meeting minutes. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT – Steve Cordes was unable to attend the meeting but sent a report with officers. We have a balance of $8751.62. Motion made by Dan Diamon, seconded by Tom Walters, to approve the financial report. Motion carried. MDAC – The Medical Director Advisory Committee will be reviewing the state hyperglycemia protocol. It was reported that MMC is working on electronic access to run reports. RTAC – Dan Diamon reported that the PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support) class in Hayward is almost full. The Instructor class will be held April 16th in Spooner. Additional information: · The PSA competition had two entries this year – Superior and Winter High Schools. He showed the PSAs to those in attendance. · Trauma Basics is being offered at MMC on Wednesday, April 13th. RSVP to Merrilee. Contact Dan Diamon at [email protected] if you would like to sponsor the class in your area. · Trauma Basic Version 2 will be offered beginning in July. This course will focus more on pediatric trauma. · Drummond Fire is sponsoring a class related to responder safety with hybrid vehicles, Saturday, April 23 at the Drummond School Auditorium. · Next meeting of the RTAC – June 30th in Superior. Be SOMEBODY – The Be SOMEBODY kick-off event is planned for Friday, May 20th along Hwy 2 in Brule from 3 PM to 6 PM. This event is being used as much for awareness that emergency services are being provided by volunteers as for recruitment that we need more help. Both the Bayfield County and Douglas County Fire Association are asking for donations of $125 from their membership to support the ads being run on Channels 3 and 6 our of Duluth as well as covering the cost of the live radio coverage from the kick-off event. State and local legislators and public officials are also being invited. Motion made by Dan Diamon, seconded by Tom Walters, that the EMS Council donate $125 to the Be SOMEBODY program and that invoices be sent encouraging donations from other departments. Motion carried. BASO – CCO Jenny Kurilla mentioned that it is very important to identify who you are (Example: Iron River EMT) when making a request of dispatch. EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT – Jan discussed several documents – Wisconsin Unknown Substance Protocol, Chemical Suicide protocol, and guidance for narrowband for hospitals. SKYWARN – Weather spotter training is scheduled for Monday, April 25th – 6:30 PM at the EOC in Washburn. All are welcome. LIFE LINK III – Life Link III will be working with Iron River to set up a regional helicopter training class. NEXT MEETING – The next meeting of the EMS Council is scheduled for Thursday, April 28th at 7:00 PM. Motion made by Lyn Cornelius, seconded by Dan Diamon, to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
