EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES COUNCIL
MEETING MINUTES
September 25, 2011 The Annual Meeting of the Bayfield-Ashland Counties EMS Council was called to order by Dean Hambrecht, President of the Council. The meeting was held at the Village Inn in Cornucopia.

Thank you to Pete Schenck of the South Shore Ambulance for organizing the dinner at the facility and dinner arrangements.

INTRODUCTIONS - Those present introduced themselves.

FINANCIAL REPORT - Steve Cordes was unable to attend the meeting but sent a financial report.
      $153.23 - Website payment
      46.00 - Post Office Box
      $1375.00 - St. Luke's Hospital (medical director)
      $3844.16 - Balance

Dean reported that the officers had discussed the current budget and would recommend there be no change in dues or membership fees.

Motion made by Dan Clark, seconded by Gary Victorson, to accept the report and move the budget decision to the next regular meeting. Motion carried.

MEDICAL DIRECTOR - Jan Victorson read an email from Dr. Wesley: "Thank you all for the opportunity of being your medical director these past few years. I took on this role when the services were in flux with the goal of finding a permanent medical director in the area who would provide you the most professional medical oversight. I'm proud that Dr. Shultz stepped forward. Though my current activities keep me tied to the Twin Cities, I want each of you to know that it was my weekends spent with you that recharged my batteries more than anything else I do. You are the heart and soul of American EMS and I'm so very proud of you." Jonathan Shultz discussed current debits - loss of HEMS in Duluth, change in Keith Wesley's involvement - and credits - new medical director, partnership with Life Link III, new protocols, CQI process, and improving relationship with Ashland Fire - in our local EMS system. He also reviewed some possible changes coming down the pipe:
     · STEMI - earlier recognition
     · Airway management
     · ALS, intercepts
     · Hospital centers of excellence - stroke, cardiac
     · New CPAP
     · Cardiac arrest non invasive interventions
He continues to review every run. The level of professionalism is outstanding; interactions are very positive; and he is both pleased and proud to be our medical director.

RTAC - Lake Superior RTAC is scheduled to meet Thursday, September 29th at the Douglas County EOC in Superior. All are welcome.

APIS EMS - Mark McCool is the new EMS contact for Apostle Islands National Lakeshore (APIS). He comes here from Olympia National Park.

All are willing to serve another term. Motion made by Dan Clark, seconded by Pete Schenck, to call for all officers three times. Motion carried.
Nominations were called for three times with no additional nominations.
Motion made by Dan Clark, seconded by Lyn Cornelius, to case a unanimous ballot for existing officers. Motion carried.

The next meeting of the EMS Council is scheduled for Thursday, October 27, 2011, 7:00 PM at MMC/Ashland.
Motion made by Dan Clark, seconded by Tam Hofman, to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned.
